THE DECISION
An indecisive young man is given the opportunity to choose between two young women competing for his affection. Along the way he will discover the source of his affliction and take action to cure him of it. Will it be in time to enjoy his happily ever after?
Michael has a difficult enough time deciding what brand of toothpaste to buy, never mind be the object of Lauren and Emily's affection. After many attempts to find a good man, one night Lauren and Emily meet Michael in a bar with his friend Jake, a well-meaning guy who comes off like a player. Jake's behavior only makes Michael more attractive to them. What begins as a casual conversation between Michael, Lauren and Emily turns flirtatious. Lauren and Emily pour on the charm before realizing they both are attracted to him and the claws emerge.
The Decision was born as a 15 minute play in 2017, written for a Play in a Day showcase at a local theater. Shortly after I began exploring the possibility of expanding it in to a 2 act play. Jake, Edna and Vince were added. Edna is Michael's mother. Vince is Edna's choice for Michael, convinced her son is gay.
Content with that for a while, the thought crossed my mind about also writing it as a feature. A new struggle emerged, take what made the play work and make it work in a screenplay. I'm happy to announce that the screenplay is complete and it captures all the essential elements that now work in either version.
